Our Challenge
S&G Air Conditioning Contracts Ltd were employed by Paramount to carry out the installation of new air conditioning and ventilation systems serving the lower basement of this challenging, but exciting, new project in Cardiff where there would be a high number of occupants upon completion.
As there were already AC and ventilation units installed on site we were asked to isolate and decommission the existing units in line with current legislation before design and installing new AC and ventilation systems.
Our Solution
We stripped out all existing air conditioning systems on both the lower and upper basement levels together with roof top air handling unit.
A new Midea VRF system was installed to serve the lower basement floor. The system consists of a mixture of fan coil unit types including cassettes & wall mounted.
Heat recovery ventilation systems were installed to serve the lower basement consisting of a significant number of Midea HRVUs together with all supply and extract ventilation ductwork. Ductwork routes were complex and so utilised common duct headers together with the requirement for motorised smoke dampers.
A central controller was installed to control both the AC and ventilation systems.
Separate dedicated WC extract ventilation systems were installed to serve the 2 no. WC blocks at lower basement level.
All new AC and ventilation services passed through the upper basement and up to roof level via very restrictive risers which proved challenging.
All the air conditioning and ventilation systems were commissioned and balanced.
All services above have been carefully designed and installed with the future expansion into the upper basement level considered.
Our scope of works included the following:
- Decommissioning and strip out of existing AC systems
- Isolations and degassing of existing DX based AHU
- Installation of new AC VRF systems to lower basement level
- Installation of new heat recovery ventilation systems to lower basement level
- Installation of new WC extract ventilation systems to lower basement level
- Strip and rebuild of condensing units for transportation to roof
- Testing and Commissioning
